MIDFIELD TERMINAL COMPLEX

The new terminal complex will be capable of handling 20 million passengers a year in its initial phase of development and, as Abu Dhabi develops as a major Middle East transport hub, up to 40 million passengers a year. The MTC will initially have more than 45 gates, and will eventually expand to more than 58 gates to cope with anticipated growth. Abu Dhabi International Airport's new terminal complex expresses the vision of the rulers of Abu Dhabi, the best the UAE and Abu Dhabi have to offer - hospitality, excellent service, spectacular adventure and a welcoming oasis, imbued with a pride and personality unique to its people and its location. The new terminal, and its close identity with Etihad Airways, the national carrier, reflects the vision for Abu Dhabi and the UAE.

Piling works for the terminal building began in February 2009.
