SCADIA is currently engaged in a major development program to expand the capacity of Abu Dhabi International Airport (ADIA) and transform it into a world class facility worthy of its status as the primary gateway to the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The centre-piece of the development is a new iconic terminal building situated between the existing and new runway that opened in 2008. The new terminal complex will increase the capacity of ADIA to more than 40 million annual passengers when its final phase of development is complete. ADAC, the owner and operator of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain International Airports, Al Bateen Executive Airport, Sir Bani Yas and Delma Island Airports is a public joint stock company incorporated by Emiri Decree No. 5 2006, to spearhead the development of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s aviation industry.
SCADIA is also undertaking numerous other projects to expand the cargo and support facilities as well as creating significant new infrastructure and facilities for a major Free Trade Zone.
The expansion of Abu Dhabi International Airport is an integral part of the overall vision for the future of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and in particular the UAE national carrier, Etihad Airways. The expansion program facilitates the establishment of Abu Dhabi as a major tourist destination as well as bolsters the rapid expansion of the aviation sector and its associated industries.
